In Appalachia a wooden creature, in the shape of a little boy, has been sighted, moving and speaking on its own. Otto Carver, a coal miner and a WWII Vet, sets out to bring this creature in. Otto is unaware this creature is the puppet he put together the night before he left, brought to life by the Witch of the Woods. Joined by a collection of characters, including a plucky orphan girl, a trickster pair, and a Jugband Chorus. Straw Boy is a reimagining of Pinocchio and aims to spin an almost-fairy tale, filled with music and magic, and questions what it means to be real and what it means to be good.
